What we collect on this website
When you visit lotranger.com we collect the basics needed to run the site: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) and any information you choose to send us by email or phone. We use cookies only for essential site functions such as language preference. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
What we collect inside LotRanger
When a dealership uses the LotRanger system, we store the information the dealership enters and needs to run its business: staff accounts, vehicle inventory, photos, customer records, deal and document information, and messages. Where a customer applies for financing, that can include sensitive details such as employment, income, and Social Insurance Number. This information belongs to the dealership - we store and process it to provide the service, nothing more, and sensitive fields are handled with additional care.
How we use information
- To provide, support, and improve the LotRanger system.
- To bill for the service.
- To respond when you contact us.
- To send listings and inventory to websites and marketplaces at the dealership's direction (syndication).
What we never do
- We never sell personal information. To anyone.
- We never use one dealership's customer data for another dealership's benefit.
- We never move your data outside Canada for storage - LotRanger is hosted in Peterborough, Ontario.
Sharing with service providers
We use a small number of service providers to deliver parts of the service (for example, SMS and email delivery). They receive only what is needed to perform their function and may not use it for anything else.
Your data stays yours
A dealership can request a copy of its data at any time, including if it decides to leave LotRanger. We do not hold data hostage.
Retention and security
We keep information for as long as an account is active or as needed to meet legal obligations, then remove it. Access to systems is restricted, logged, and protected with industry-standard measures.
If a breach of safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and report to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as soon as feasible, as PIPEDA requires.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you. Contact us and we will respond promptly.
